NET ZERO PLEDGES

Setting the Example: Watford’s Net Zero Strategy

Watford FC strikes a partnership with ClearVUE.Business to help the club pursue its net zero goals. Here is how ClearVUE will assist the English football club achieve a clean sheet on carbon emissions.

How Watford Football Club is Making Net Zero its Goal

Tackling the climate emergency in isolation will not work. It is a collaborative effort – of governments, people, businesses, and other stakeholders, tapping into each other’s enthusiasm, expertise and desire for change.

Our relationship with Watford Football Club comes from our combined passion to protect the future of the planet and work together to tackle the climate emergency. Without their drive to become the most sustainable club in the English Football League, we wouldn’t be partners. But without our dedicated resource of net zero consultancy and technology, the journey wouldn’t be starting.

Watford FC’s stakeholders want the club not only to take care about its own sustainability but also to create a positive impact for those other businesses and the wider community around them and have an impact on society as whole. In addition, the club wants to be in a strong position to respond to new UK Government legislation to ensure they do not fall foul to carbon emission taxes or penalties. This will require the introduction of a strategy that heralds wholesale change in operational and behavioural measures.

But this is not why Watford have started the journey – they have started the journey because of a social conscience – a moral obligation to their fans to create a sustainable club that its young supporters and their future children can enjoy together for generations to come.

Solving the problem means identifying the problem. We found Watford emitted 92 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions in 2018 *. Now we know the extent, we know the road ahead.

Companies and their emissions grow over time. That’s why we’re promising to be net zero based on our 2018 baseline, no matter how much our company grows.
